Greubel Forsey unveils the final edition of the Balancier Contemporain, bringing a definitive close to this iconic calibre. Limited to just 33 timepieces and crafted in a rare 39.6 mm stainless steel case, this edition will be built and delivered exclusively in 2025, after which the Balancier Contemporain calibre will be permanently retired. More than a final chapter, this timepiece is a statement of purpose, honouring the legacy of the Balancier Contemporain with purity and restraint.

When it was introduced, the Balancier Contemporain redefined expectations by delivering the full Greubel Forsey experience in a compact diameter. This final edition preserves that achievement, with a high-domed sapphire crystal revealing a gold dial that plays with layers, textures and finishes. A sunburst blue hour-ring and deep blue indications create clarity and contrast, while the 12.6 mm in-house balance wheel, suspended above a flat, black-polished gold plate, draws the eye with technical depth and striking reflection.

The movement, composed of 256 hand-finished components, exemplifies Greubel Forsey’s uncompromising commitment to excellence. Nickel silver bridges are frosted and spotted by hand, steel surfaces are flat black-polished, and jewels are set in gold chatons with polished countersinks. Even the surfaces invisible to the wearer are finished with the same dedication, ensuring each part stands as a miniature work of art.

While it is the last timepiece to house this calibre, it also marks the beginning of a new direction for Greubel Forsey, with a creative focus on small-diameter timepieces that explore new dimensions of mechanical expression, proportion, and elegance. The Balancier Contemporain in stainless steel is a definitive conclusion – and a confident beginning.
